Mo’s Prose – Day 312 / SPRING!

Day 312 – Monday, March 20, 2017

Spring!

Pulsing, pulsing louder now ‘till ground reverberates,
Throbbing noise inside her head, stirs she who hibernates
Until at last she starts to stretch, unfurling limbs curled tight,
And straightening out her stiffened legs, like dogs in morning light

Buried deep, to keep her warm, her naked skin so pale,
Her eyelids flutter, open slow, and heard her song prevail
The beat of life, the amazon, this rapturous earth doth sing,
And bursting through the thawing ground, there rises lovely Spring

Shaking off the sleepy soil, she tilled the planted beds
Sifting fingers through her hair, spreads seeds where life was dead
And looking down below her chest, she saw that chorded root
That held her navel to the land, and nourished life acute

She firmly pulled and felt the give, released from Mother’s womb,
And rose up blowing warmth and care to bushes put in bloom
She held sweet birds and mammals with a touch of life to give,
Hatching chicks and sheep and cows with kisses so they’d live

With twists of hands she waved the winds to pollinate the air,
But cupped her finger round their hives for bees to do their share
She held the sun a little longer; little longer still,
And sprinkled mustard, bonnets blue and clover on the hill

She stood up to the Winter, and she felt his icy stare,
But as she drew up like the trees, he backed down to her glare
Her kindness melted mountain snow for crops the farmers bring,
And falling back in poppy fields, there laughed our lovely Spring
