Dern Birds – Part Deux

Remember last year when I started this stuff,
That battle with birds when I had to get rough?
I thought I was done, I plugged up that hole,
No beeping or peeping, I was on a roll!

But spring it has sprung with some muscles in beaks,
‘Cause those little bastards came back to my peaks!
I left for awhile and returned in the night,
And noticed a mess as I turned on the light

Scattered all over my patio back,
Was fluff from the attic –a roofing attack!
When daylight appeared, so did their flock,
Those starlings are crazy, I said with a shock

I had to start working so plugging did wait,
That errors was mine, like fish to some bait
I suddenly heard all this scratching and flapping,
Right over my head, in the bedroom for napping

Now stuck in the roof with no holes to get out,
Meant up in the ceiling removal no doubt
Working now stopped and I got out the ladder,
He’d flown to the hall and was making me madder!

I opened the door and I pushed back the hatch,
He swooped through the hole and I missed with the snatch
So I picked up a towel to protect him and me,
And nabbed him before he could poop with a glee

Released out the door, he shot like a rocket,
“Check” for that step, what’s next on the docket?
My friend had the staples and I had the mesh,
We snipped and we stapled and covered afresh

With that, we were done! I’d evened the score,
I did win this battle, –not sure of the war!
I’m giving them creds, for instincts tenacious,
And hoping my mesh withstands beaks so voracious!
